I've been a musician all of my life. If you saw my page about Barry Manilow in the Inspiration section, you'll know that I started playing the harp in 1995. My strong musical background and love of all genres of music serves me very well as a voice actor because it enables me to interpret copy like lyrics in a song, match copy with the beat in the music and assist my clients in selecting appropriate background music. I even have occasionally created custom music beds for narrations. As a freelance writing assignment for the national magazine Harp Column, I interviewed musicians, researched publications and drew my own conclusions about effective techniques to create a press kit. Magazine editor Kimberly Rowe kindly gave me permission to post a PDF copy of my article on my web site. Since the article appeared in the July/August, 1996 issue of the magazine, much of the material might be dated most people are moving to electronic press kits and on-line resources. However, I think some of the basic marketing and presentation principles may still prove helpful. Click here to download a copy of the article. You probably will want to right-click and open it in a new window; otherwise, the text will be too small to read. I minored in marketing in college and continue to be a perpetual student of marketing. I LOVE marketing and read everything I can about the topic. I plan to expand this column as time permits to provide resources and ideas to help others jump-start their marketing campaigns. Bookmark this page and check back often! Also, please be sure to read articles in my blog and click on the advertisers' links in the left column for more fantastic promotional ideas. |
